Awesome old Avalon Hill strategy game, kinda like Risk without dice and America. Instead of luck, you work with (read: backstab) other players in an attempt to control Europe.

Anyone remember this old game?

I bought the computer version years ago, but never convinced any of my friends to pick it up as well so we just stuck with VGA Planets and then later Civ 4.

No, not quite enough. There's an amazing 3rd party expansion set that puts the start back to 1939. First thing that happens is Germany gets 2 turns (Blitzkrieg) and Japan can do the same at any time they choose (but only once). French olonies do a roll after France falls to either become Vichy or Free French, as do their 2 navies with an added option of scuttling. Saw both navies join Germany once, things get really interesting when the German navy has a massive fleet with 2 carriers in the Med.

Shogun/Samauri Swords is another great one from the same series as Axis & Allies. Turns in a different random order each round really complicates things. I never got to see the other games in the series, but none of the others have been remade since the late '80s. I think one was a European theatre Cold War scenario, can't recall the name, and another was an invasion of the US called Fortress America. There might have been 2 more as well.

I played the non-pc version once. Really interesting game that creates a lot of interesting dynamics. The group I played with had been playing a long time, and I got slaughtered.
